Fife College recognised for staff support at Fife Civic Awards

Fife College recognised for staff support at Fife Civic Awards: Covid Recognition-5

Fife College has been recognised for its support of staff during the pandemic at the Fife Civic Awards.

The College received the Employer Recognition Award which was given to the organisation that had best supported their staff over the course of the global pandemic.

Special reference was made to the College giving staff the Friday off at the beginning of the pandemic as a day to rest and spend time with family and improve work-life balance.

The work done to assist students, the extension of flexible working, and the guidance provided on maintaining good mental health and working from home were also reasons behind the College’s win.

The Fife Civic Awards were coordinated by Fife Voluntary Action in partnership with Fife Council and the agencies that make up the Fife Partnership.

They were held to celebrate and recognise people and organisations in Fife for their exceptional service and support during the COVID pandemic.

Zelda Franklin-Hills, the Director of HR at Fife College, collected the award on the night. Speaking afterwards she said:

“We’re thrilled to have received this recognition for the work we put in to support our staff throughout the pandemic.

“We knew that it would be an incredibly tough time for many as they had to adapt to the new situation we all found ourselves in.

“The steps we took were to ensure that all staff and students felt supported at a time when they might have felt distant from the College.

“Supporting good mental health was hugely important to us, which is why we did all we could to provide advice and tips and make this readily available online.

“Thanks to the FVA for the award, and to all of those who nominated us – it’s great to know our efforts were appreciated.”

Kenny Murphy, Chief Executive of Fife Voluntary Action said:

“Fife College – as well as many other employers in Fife - worked hard to support their employees during the initial lockdown.

"Working from home, implementing new technologies and dealing with a global virus threw up many challenges for employers and employees alike.

"Having a supportive and flexible employer really helps employees when things get tricky. Well done to Fife College and all those employers who moved quickly to put support in place for their staff.”
